800w requires two button presses to turn on

Once I had that file opened, I am able to add "shes" to "she's" and also remove the extra space from the end of "isn't". I also hit CTRL-A to highlight the entire list (I'm using notepad to edit), and learned, wow, there's a lot of words with extra spaces at the end! So I'm painstakingly removing all of those.

Please tell me the RedFly driver had nothing to do with ruining this file.

What is the auto-correct issue laurieny is referring to, if not this one?

The auto correct issue laurieny is referring to has to do with Treo users needing to turn off auto-correct for some stuff to auto-finish (e-mail address when creating a new e-mail is one of them).

It has nothing to do with the dictionary.

The reason you have incorrect words in there is because you added them. Not intentionally, but at some point you typed them in wrong and the dictionary "learned" the incorrect word.

The dictionary learns (MUCH more so than WM5) in an attempt to better predict, assist, and speed up your typing.

Unfortunately if you type a word wrong (misspell it, put an extra space by mistake) it adds the incorrect word to the dictionary.

Sometimes it will add two words to the dictionary. When and why it does this, I have not been able to figure out.

As you already figured out, Word Corrector will let you fix the dictionary. It's a very slick little program, I periodically use it to clean up my dictionary if it's getting too bad.

Ironically, now that the power button is working "correctly", it occurs to me that I had already adapted from my old phone's single-press to my new 800w's double-press (I bought the Treo and RedFly at the same time, so I've never known one without the other), so now that I have fixed that "problem", I'm already finding myself pressing power twice out of habit, thus turning the phone on and then immediately off again. Haha. Guess it was never that big of a deal in the first place, huh?

And, I'm glad to learn it was me, and not Celio or Microsoft, who was responsible for my messed up dictionary. Thank you, Ebag333, for that extremely informative post! And, yes, WC rocks. I definitely foresee using it with some regularity.

That all considered, I might be back on the fence about the RedFly again. As I said, I was never completely happy with it in the first place, so I'm still pretty flaky on the decision to keep it or not, but now I'm not unhappy with it either, so I could still go either way.

I'll probably still return it. Its cost could/should have likely been better spent on snowboarding gear. ;)

What? Someone taking responsibility for making a mistake?

That'll never fly around here! You need at least a dozen posts blaming Celio, Microsoft, and anyone else you can think of! :hmm:

It was YOU, wasn't it! Sneaking in to my house at night and over-writing my ROM.

Oh yeah. I get it now. You're the one shifting blame to me.

:D

Staying roughly on-topic, it's funny that you mention you're now used to the double press. I still haven't gotten used to it, so what I do almost every time I use my phone is:

press once.
realize my mistake, so press twice.
wait a second...phone turns on and immediately clicks off.
expletive.
press again thinking I got it fast enough.
nothing happens.
press twice.
phone turns on.
forget to press center button in time because I was so intent on seeing if the screen actually lit up.
phone turns off.
expletive.
press twice, then press center button like a Bawls-crazed gamer. Success!!

Celio, please help me end this madness. :)

LOL. I was reading several threads and meant to post a response to this one and the one about word completion and mixed the two - sorry!

The issue here is specific to the Treo, but it too has been fixed in the next release.

- Laurie (Celio Director of Engineering/Ops)

Laurie,

Your post indicated that this treo-specific issue was fixed in the then-next (presumably now current) release, yet I'm still seeing the double-press-required-to-turn-on issue. Can you confirm that in your testing it is resolved, or did this not make it into the final build?

Thanks! This was one thing I was really looking forward to after seeing your post.

I have this problem with my Treo 800w. I just got the redfly and noticed a few days ago that my phone now takes two presses of the power button plus the center button for the keyguard to turn on. Didn't link it to the redfly though :) Doesn't bother me, I actually kinda like it. My battery life seems to have improved a bit since even with the keyguard on the screen comes to life for a few seconds :p

Still loving my redfly :]
