8gb and 16gb versions revealed in training?

I took a WP8 training today and there was mention of the 8x being made available in 2 memory options. Was this always the case?

One interesting thing that I did notice was that we had to complete an in-person WP8 training by 11/16. It makes me wonder if that's an important date.
