Will cases etc from 8x or 8s fit?

Take a look at the product pages for both and see if the dimensions of the phones are the same. If they're the same then there's a good chance the cases will fit properly.

The dimensions seem similar but it looks like the charging port and the camera (well at least the flash) positions might be different (just from glancing at some of the pictures). So the case might theoretically fit but could be an issue for complete functionality. My local Sprint store has 2 cases in stock for the phone - a relatively thin clear case (from HTC) and a bulky rubberized looking case with several layers of protection.
