A few questions about the dev preview

When the developer preview for 8.1 comes out I want to update my Lumia 920 to it, I have some questions.
to get the update do I just download the dev preview app, register from there and download? Also when the official update comes from my carrier willit delete the dev preview and download the new one?

It will not delete the preview it will update your preview to the latest windows phone 8.1 along with nokia cyan firmware update.

Just register your free account with microsoft as a developer... Develop unlock your phone and wait until its released. Yes, you will get the final release from the carrier when its officially available.

You dont need a dev unlock (which is used to sideload apps) but an app which unlocks dev updates : Preview for Developers | Windows Phone Apps+Games Store (United States)
