A Suggestion

After owning my Surface Pro 3 for less then two weeks I have spoken with Microsoft Surface Support a number of times. To start with, the firmware update along with a Windows update on January 19th totally screwed my Surface up with BSOD and inability to reboot without several attempts with the power button. The reboots were lengthy at best.

This was not what I paid for and as a result I started calling MS Surface support complaining and researching found that the Pen Settings driver in the 1-19 firmware update was the cause of the issues I was experiencing. After calling MS Surface support again the tech confirmed my findings and the tech had me uninstall the Pen Settings driver and told me that the correct driver that was displaced by the updated firmware should be reinstalled via a reboot and then running updates. This failed to reinstall the Pen Settings version 4.0.112.1 back on my Surface. So, I ventured on the met and found the drivers for the Pen Settings with the correct version, installed them and all was well... kind of.

The Surface was running a little sluggish and was getting very warm, pointing at tone Intel update problem mentioned along with the higher then expected battery drain issue.

So, last night I did a full reset, wiping all settings and apps and basically starting with a clean tablet.

This move has made all the difference. After FW was updated along with receiving the 1511 update, the tablet has been much smoother and cooler with battery life doing much better.

I would suggest to anyone experiencing the BSOD or the reboot problem or the battery drain or the hot tablet problem, do a full reset and see if that helps.

Thank you for this post - I just ordered a SP3 256, 8 and expect it to arrive within a few days. I've been reading through a ton of posts, etc and thinking to myself, doesn't M$ test these drivers etc before they release them?

Anyway - I'm anxious for the SP3 to arrive but am weary on what's going to happen when I turn it on & it connects to the world.

To say those first couple of days were not frustrating would be a lie, however I did know the Surface is a quality product and chose the 3 Pro over the 4 Pro because the 3 meets my needs. Not to mention the difference in cost.
I research all my electronic purchases and in my profession I have to know what to buy and how much to pay. I am the one that makes it all work.

It was frustrating for everybody. You just had the bad luck if getting this right as a bad driver update was released. It's normally not like this. I've had my SP3 since it was released and I haven't had any major problems. At least not as bad as the 1/19/2016 firmware update.
