Accidently hitting the search button

While using my L920, sometimes I accidently hit the search button and bing pops up. I am a new WP8 user and I find the search button useless. Can we customize it ?

I used to do that all the time on my Titan II, but not so much anymore. You will get used to it. I don't much care for it either. Maybe I will start trying to use it more often.

I actually would like the option to lock the buttons somehow. When my son is playing a game, it is too easy to exit out by just hovering over those bottom three buttons.

Exactly, I was watching a video the other day, and my finger just about touched the search button and whoa, bing comes up. Sometimes I feel hardware buttons would have been better, especially if these buttons are so sensitive

But yep, i started out doing the same thing! I however find the search button very useful! I mean how many times a day are you talking to somebody and you guys are trying to think of something or need to know something and you say "lets look it up". Just hit the search button and search away! I use the search button almost every time I wake my phone up!

I do however like the old integration of the search button, i think it was pre-mango. Depending on what app or screen you were it it would change functionality. If you were in contacts and hit the search button, you would search your contacts. If in marketplace youd search marketplace, email youd search email, etc etc. Now its bing or nothing.

I think you'll learn to love it, when i first got a Windows Phone i thought the same way as you did, but its something that you will end up appreciating!

I found the button very useful. At first I was hitting it on accident but I've adjusted now and don't really have that problem.

I've read multiple times that this is how the search button will be in the end. Bing is just a temporary fix until the correct implementation is fixed. They intend on having it work like the Search Charm does in Windows 8. They were having performance and compatibility issues, so they implemented Bing for the time being.
