Acer Liquid Jade Primo is a go. Windows 10 Mobile and Continuum from a non-Lumia OEM.

I think this bodes well for the ecosystem. Acer is making a pretty upscale package which tells me they believe.

Here's a sneak peak from CES 2016 thanks to Daniel Rubino. Hands-on with Acer's Continuum-capable Liquid Jade Primo | Windows Central

And the video embedded in the Blog post:

Man I dig that dock. Nicely engineered with end use in mind.

Here are some more Blog entries: Results for "acer jade primo" | Windows Central

The spec as we know it now:
  • Snapdragon 808 SoC
  • 5.5" HD display (1920 x 1080) in (?)AMOLED(?) with 2.5D Gorilla Glass
  • 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage, (?)no SD slot(?)
  • LTE cat6 (300mbps downlink, 50mbps uplink)
  • (?)Dual SIM(?)
  • Rear camera 21MP f/2.2, dual LED flash, 4k video capable
  • Front camera 8MP f/2.2 wide, 1080p video capable
  • Windows 10 Mobile, added firmware to control hardware and no extra "Apps" or Acer bloat (if you have used BLU on WP you have a pretty good idea what this means)
  • The device will include the dock, a mouse and (?)a keyboard(?) in the box
(?)denotes mixed reports from various sources(?)

what do I think? I plan to see if I can find them at CES thursday (and nu ans). wanna compare everything to my 950 :)

for those that never been to the las vegas convention center.... it's MASSIVE and ces encompasses the lvcc and surrounding hotels, meeting spaces, etc. It's impossible to do the whole convention in 1 day, VERY hard to do the whole thing in 3-4 days. I have 1 day :(

On the video you can see that the phone has an notification led, does anybody know if it actually works as a notification led, not just there for charging? :)

Good question. I don't know the answer, but I have some thoughts. W10M is supposed to support a blinky LED. How much of that is firmware? My impression is 100% OEM must implement the system. Daniel Rubino is reporting zero software additions from Acer on this unit.

Do any devices currently see LED notification on W10M Preview?

A little lackluster in the design department but overall a decent looking device with good specs. A solid choice for anyone that doesn't (or can't) go Lumia. I wish Acer the best.

I got a few minutes of playtime with the Acer (at the qualcomm booth, the had a windows mobile table set up, devices I have never heard of from under 5" up to 8"!)

The acer was nice, but didn't feel premium to me.... The Nu Ans Neo on the other hand, was VERY nice. It too a bit to find them (in what was the mostly car oriented north hall) It felt solid, and the 2-tone cases are neat and easy to work with. The wallet cases were beautiful (wood cost so thin, it was flexible!!!) They were looking for a worldwide distributor, and hope they get it. I also played with their lamp dock, which is just charging only, but classy :)

I also plugged my 950 into EVERY USB-C device I could find on the floor :)

Listen, if this Acer has a better camera than my current 920(more megapixels dont really tell me something),and the rumored price is true, I'm forsaking my thoughts on purchasing the 950 and running to buy this Jade Primo asap.

Head to head comparison will be probably (the way I see that):

Pros: Bigger display, better frontfacing camera, price&package - ~400$ , including mouse, keyboard and acer's display dock.

Cons: Higher dentisy and resolution, better camera, iris scanner, argueable better looks (people say the 950 doesnt look premium, for me it looks just fine, it's not Nokia now but Microsoft, so don't expect anyhing fancy as the 930 was.). Qi charging.
Battery life - nothing yet about Acer, but if they have about the same mah expect better on the Primo (Same chipset)

Verdict: The new 950 has the better camera, the overall better display, and it offers the Qi, which is pretty solid (Intentionally, I didn't mention the Hello feature,as many will agree, it is just a niche).
Yet you should remember that WP has always felt and looked amazingly even on 720p devices. Primo's 1080p isn't any bad, it is just that the 950 is noticeably better. But its price, compared to the dock-keyboard deal Acer offers, is the real deal breaker here. If you are a Lumia fan, and don't mind the price, The Lumia 950 can offers you a lot. If you fell, even a bit, that the price is too high, yet you seek the full, high-end W10M experience, Acer's Jade Primo might just give you that.

Having used non-Lumia phones with minimal firmware (BLU HD 1st and 2nd gen) the OOBE with camera will not be pleasant. People will be cussing, unless I miss my mark here. That said, some patience and some 3rd party camera Apps will turn the experience from frustration into smiles. Take initial camera reports with a grain of salt.

~400$ , including mouse, keyboard and acer's display dock.

Initial reports had it that low... My Bing Fu tells me that post CES the new estimate is a Jade Primo + dock + keyboard + mouse (full package) will retail right around the cost of a 950 XL (handset only).

I agree, with the added detail that a PPI calculator puts the Jade Primo screen at 400ppi. Couple that with FHD resolution I think the screen will look very nice for the price. I also think the Acer dock is a bit better detailed than Microsoft's due to true docking being included.

I'm watching this one as well. Will it come to the US???

I'm betting B&H will find a way if it releases in a Latin American radio version. :winktongue:

Orange portugal site shows some specs that we didn't know like the very low battery capacity of 2800 mAh, but the new flagship lumias have more. Hopefully its Li-Po, not Li-ion. Its not uncommon for Acer to use Li-Po batteries. Check this phone Acer Liquid Jade Z for example. There is also a video where acer representative says that the phone has 2780mAh...hopefully the OS would be better when the phone arrives :)
