Am I viewing it wrong?

WPCentral is my goto site for WP news and i read i every day. I recently spent some time on a different site (verge) and got sucked into their forums and had a pretty great time. The only problem is I'm not really a fan of their site (other than one author, Tom), so i am really trying to just stick with these forums, but they're REALLY hard to view. They don't seem to be threaded, so i can't tell if someone has replied with a response... Case in point, i just replied to someone and it went to page 5...only to see that others had already replied to him on page 2. Well why isn't the reply under thier post?
So...are there settings to fix this? Is there a different site or app i should use that makes it for easier reading?
Again, from what i've seen, the whole site is superior to others...from the content to the posters... It's just the viewing format.

Well you can change the display format if that helps. It's on the top right corner of a thread. Linear is how most forums are. Threaded is sort of what you're looking for. You have a list of all the posts, with who replied to whom, and you click on a post and it'll display it one post at a time. Then there's hybrid, with a combination of both, except the link to take me to a certain post doesn't work for me for some reason.

Not quite what The Verge has though. To me it looks like their forums just use whatever their comment system is called.
