Hey guys. I had a wonderful idea for the start screen. As you know start screen doesnt rotate. It's not a big deal but I would like to see this on windows 8.1. Now to the idea part :
Instead of like not rotating or rotating the old fashioned way, I would love to see the icons on the tiles rotate, it would be awesome.
Post your thoughts. Cheers! 😁

That's cool in a visual sort of way but doesn't serve any practical purpose AFAIK.

I'd like to see that.
When I first started using the WP I thought it odd that the home screen didn't rotate.

Doesn't have to serve a practical purpose.. it could just serve as a nice visual. I actually really like the idea. Also, with the capacitive buttons, these could rotate as well. Very cool idea.

The only problem is that wide tiles (rectangular tiles) might not look as nice.

That statement makes no sense, why have screen rotation then???

We have glance, so why cant we disable the lock screen???

Why doesnt the home screen rotate, it would be perfect if it did, stupid idea to rotate apps but then get pushed back to a non rotating homescreen, android tablets rotate the screen automatically if you rotate your tablet, so seems like again MS developers stupidity to me...???

Why have notifications if the phone doesnt tell you missed a call, whats the point of a notification centre if you have to double tap to wake the phone, get through glance, then the lock screen, then the notification centre all on a non rotating OS, who thought that up???

Man MS needs to step up and get stuff sorted, also, why no notification light still, design flaws a lot going on here..????

, android tablets rotate the screen automatically if you rotate your tablet,

...Android tablets rotate the screen...
...Android tablets rotate...
...Android tablets...
...Tablets...

Hmmm, is it because they're tablets? Because smartphones don't usually have rotating homescreens. Besides, the option for glance doesn't exist on non-Nokia phones, it would fall to Nokia to see the need to cut out the lock screen.
Edit: The rest of your argument reads like a drunken rant tbh. Why have notifications if you have to put on your phone to see it? Because glance is the phone being off you know. "All on a none rotating", my bad. I didn't know you were being jokey/sarcastic. I'll keep that in mind next time.

We have glance, so why cant we disable the lock screen??? Glance is a Nokia specific app. I'm sure they just put their resources elsewhere.

I had an Android tablet. Rotating the stock launcher squeezed everything vertically and kinda felt weird. Besides, OP's idea would break rectangle tiles and not-OP's idea would put the Start screen in a weird order.

Why have notifications if the phone doesnt tell you missed a call, whats the point of a notification centre if you have to double tap to wake the phone, get through glance, then the lock screen, then the notification centre all on a non rotating OS, who thought that up???
Everything else requires you to wake up the phone to view the notification center.
What. You don't have to get through glance, its just there.

And what does rotation have to do with the NC?

Man MS needs to step up and get stuff sorted, also, why no notification light still, design flaws a lot going on here..????

You don't have to use so many question marks. Is your question mark key broken????????????????????????????????????????????

Well, Windows tablets handle rotating just fine. I mean, tiles get rearranged (small, wide, large, what have you) and lose the portion of the original layout but when you rotate it back their layout is restored so I see no reason why similar approach couldn't be used in Windows Phone. It's not that it's impossible or difficult; Microsoft probably thinks it's not necessary to rotate the screen. However, personally I'd like my start screen to rotate. :)

I was thinking the same way too!
start screen tiles can be used horizontally.. or should have an option to have horizontal start screen.. then if you swipe from the bottom , applist will appear..

just the same way how windows pc starts screen...

JMOO.

I didn't think of that. Now that would look good.

Lol, it just seems like a lot of oversights on their part (devs), I can see that they are trying to fix em, but if they had thought futher ahead in the first place, this would not have happened... I love my windows phones, but apps that rotate and dont rotate get on my nerves, you go from one to the other, messages rotate, emails rotate, facebook doesnt etc...id love the screen to rotate (tiles wise)..would be wonderful... sorry about the question marks, just cant understand the logic of a bunch of developers missing out key features on a phone that has a wonderful potential (yeah i know...)
