An iPhone user's (surprisingly positive) experience with Windows Phone

Agree that it is a problem. But it is just one of the problems. The other major problem is, as I mentioned, their habits. Many people cannot afford the time on learning a new mobile platform. For technical people, it takes weeks. For ordinary users, it takes months....

My mother and grandparents are about as simple minded as they come and picked up windows phones. It really depends on the OS. Apple and windows phones are just fine and easy to adapt to.

How do I know? My friends brother is special needs and he managed to pick up my Lumia to which his brother replied "wow, I have to constantly do it for him on my galaxy."

Even I struggle sometimes trying to figure android out because the OS is not user friendly.

Like I said most complaints usually center around it lacking apps. And that's why most people don't choose windows phone. Considering these days where people leave apple for android and android for apple, people are open to change if the change is good.

From what I hear, this is at least part of the reason why carriers are hesitant to push WP. The return rate is too high. Not that the consumers don't like WP itself, but as you say, the lack of popular apps is a killer.

It's why I make sure to inquire about their needs because it helps save them time and money and not waste my time. The return rates usually aren't too high when you accurately inform people of windows phones. I got this man into a lumia 640 one time after he returned some android phone and about a week later I saw him walking in the mall and he actually came up to me thanking me because the camera was awesome and it was a lot easier for him to use.

That's how it should be done, always!

I'm curious about your experiences. I don't know how much info you wish to put in public, but do you work at a carrier store? And how are return rates? Is WP's return rate actually higher? How are return rates with popular Android OEMs? I'm guessing iPhone's return rate is pretty low. Do people bring phones back because they do not like them, or because something is wrong with them? Feel free to answer or not answer whatever you feel comfortable with.

Interesting you say that. I am in the office just the other day sitting with a mix of iPhone users and high end Android devices. I have a lumia 920 and am using word flow to type with lightening speed and everyone is just staring at me. They all want a turn and are amazed at just how predictive and fast it is. And then we get to talking. I tell them how my phone has wireless charging, I show them the glance screen, the built in GPS navigation system (Heredrive) and then start talking about what will happen with Continuum. Funny how an OS they had never considered got such an interesting (and good) reception. I just find WP very very smooth and works really well. Actually coming from IOS myself I prefer Windows phone. Yes we need more apps (I need hootsuite for work), but with W10 and the ease of porting, it can only get better.

I would switch over to Windows Phone if the app situation would improve and more AAA apps would be made for it.
