Another Doom & Gloom article about WP8

Do you want to know why I believe that WP is in good shape??

People are posting negative comments on our forum. Writers are slamming it. Other companies trolls are belittling it.

Yep, if WP was failing, NO ONE would care about it.

In five years, just think how many people will be saying "I always knew WP was going to be a major player!! I just KNEW it!!"

Exactly snowmutt. There is a pattern to these things too and largely orchestrated IMHO. Anytime Nokia posts gains or Microsoft post gains, here come the flood of these tales of woe from bloggers. You could set your watch to it.

When Android came out, it had the same 4 standard icons at the bottom and icons all over the screen as Apple - the only difference was it was open, it had a separate app drawer, and the G1 had a physical keyboard in addition to a soft keyboard. It took Android a while before it got apps in it's App Store that made people think twice. I love Android, don't get me wrong. But what plagues it is the fragmentation. And yes, fragmentation is still a big problem. I believe the one thing that keeps Android going strong is the fact that you can root them and do what you want with it. Rooting kept me with the latest OS. Rooting allowed me to change things around. Rooting allowed apps you wouldn't normally get. But that was all because someone had that device and was willing to support it. So the rooting community is almost like another OS in and of itself because Android puts out a new OS, it gets released by the manufacturer, and then you have to hope a developer cooks something up. Otherwise, you're still left waiting.

.

This is the major key in Androids success, since the users can sustain a fresh UI by rooting the device they never get the 'stale' impression going on. And for most non-root, casual users such as my peers or people i meet they've got a budget phone such as an Ace2 or HTC Desire because they were $0 on contract or the cheapest option on the "no contract - tab" provider. These 2 reasons will keep Android at the top and continue to do so unless another OS offers something to draw people in. WP8 has its budget phones and its trying to gain market shares, and as much as i dont care for the list of popular apps...every person that sees my phone, whether they're techie or as casual as it comes always states "oh man, ya but its got no apps right?"...This comes from people who have a total of 10-15 apps installed which all exist on WP8. If this continues WP aint gonna pass the 10% market share, they need to deliver soon and change the perception asap.

I love my WP8, i can admit it wasn't a major change from WP7.5 but id still pick it over Android or iPhone. Its not without its flaws or lack of 'basic' features. And as some have said which i agree with, MS seems to be just sitting back and rolling out the changes much too slowly. They have an opportunity to gain a good spot but need to pick up the pace.

I like most of these comments, especially @rockstarzz #38, which brings on the common sense business side of things.

I do want to throw in one wrinkle about the slow improvements and updates. I would rather have everything working, then MS and OEM's push out updates quickly and them not work. It stinks not having the same functionality of some of the OS's I like less, but it is better then receiving a firmware patch or a software update that causes more problems then it fixes.

I saw a post on The Verge asking what's your next phone? Expecting a flood of Note 3 comments, I was in for a surprise.

(uploaded 54/794 comments, further down, you get much less Lumia comments and more Moto X, Note 3, iPhone, Nokia 3310, Xperia Z, One, Nexus, comments, but the 1020 is still noticeably there.)

I think Nokia has a winner on their hands. They've gained some degree of mindshare from having the biggest MP count. Like how some people become the "best" by putting the highest numbers possible on the spec sheets.
