Any benefit to running AT&T Uverse through my XBOX One?

I just got an XBOX One last night from my local Msft store. During setup I saw that the One let's you run your cable provider into the One and then it feeds to the TV. I'm considering changing to this config if there is any significant upside. Is that config useless if I don't have a Kinnect unit to process voice commands for channel changing?

Why wouldn't you want the ease of being able to seamlessly switch?

I rarely use voice commands. But I got good use of the TV through Xbox One by watching a football game while having the NFL app snapped to the side with the scores of the other games.

I'm not sure how streamlined it would be. The Kinect also is an IR blaster that changes channels - either with a voice command or selecting the channel through the OneGuide.

It would keep you from having to switch inputs all the time. Just select the TV app and then use your own remote to change the channel.

Try it and see, I have my cable plugged in, my Xbox One then plugs into my receiver and that feeds my TV, I also have the Xbox One media controller.

In effect this means I am down to just one remote control as when I start or shut down the Xbox, it turns every thing else on or off. It also means I can watch TV, use the One Guide to see what's on, change to music or games and back to TV anytime I want and I can also snap it so I can keep an eye on what's on TV whilst doing something else.

Without Kinect I would say you would really need the media controller (There are also third party controllers available) to make sense of it as the standard controller would keep shutting down and need waking up and not be as useful.

Another reason to run your TV source through the Xbox One is if you watch a lot of live TV, the OneGuide is quite good and there is a way to watch a live twitter feed associated with the show you are watching.

Thanks for the replies everyone (and sorry for the late reply, work has been killing my xbox time). The reason I didn't initially go with running my TV through the Xbox was because I got a bundle that didn't have the Kinect camera and rewiring my systems is a major pain due to the entertainment center. I've wanted to get the Kinect and these responses are putting me over the edge, I think I'll be getting one after Christmas and doing the rewiring.

Basically you don't need the Kinect to control other equipment if you can get hold of a IR blaster / IR repeater.

On the back of the Xbox One is a 3.5 jack socket, you plug the blaster into this and then you can set up the Xbox One to control other devices (TV, receiver, cable box) just like the Kinect does for not many pennies.

However personally I would go for Kinect if you can as the voice controls do work.

The only reason I went for the non Kinect idea for my wife's Xbox, is she doesn't like talking to it and also doesn't like it saying hello when she walks in. On the reverse she does like the idea of one simple remote control/interface for all her entertainment so TV (Via dongle) music and photo's etc.
