Anyone else's Band not go above 80% when charging?

Glad I found this post, because I've been "charging" now for an hour or so and it's been parked at 80%, going to restart it to see

*EDIT* power cycled it and now showing 100%

Hoping a new FW update will address this and other little niggling things on this Band would be great

Well my band also maxes at 80%. It takes about 45 minutes to get there from empty. Then it takes an ADDITIONAL 1.5 hours to get to 100%. Happened many times. I am okay with it, but I just wish it would charge better.

It takes a while to go from 80% to 100%.

Remember Microsoft stated that it rapidly charges to 80% (in 30 mins) but to fully charge the device takes 90mins, 1.5 hours. Mine was stuck at 80% too last night, but it eventually charges the final 20%

:)

Same, fast charges to 80% then takes an hour to go from 80% to 100%

Make sure you check the Amps on your USB wall charger. I believe the numbers quoted by MS were with a 2A (2000 mA) charger. Anything lower will take longer. Most people including myself will be using a 1 - 1.5A charger. I plan to go buy a 2.1A later this week.

Since the battery capacity is only 200mAh (2x100mAh batteries), there is no possible way to safely charge at 2A. Typically, the reasonably safe charging rate is (battery capacity / 2) so in this case 100mA. Buying a faster charger will not help as mentioned above.

Your 100ma statement makes no sense. Bathe smallest micro USB charger you can reasonably find is 1000ma (1 amp)

I'm not saying you need a *slower* charger... just that you could use a USB port capable of 500mA or a tablet charger capable of 3000mA and both would charge the Band in the same amount of time since the Band's batteries are the bottleneck here :)

Either drag the tile (with the time) to the left to see the battery level, or put watch mode on in the settings, then put it on charge and it will display the battery percentage

Thanks a lot. I turned watch mode off. Now I can see the battery percentage by turning it on.

i was just about to start a thread about this, debating on if i still should....

anyway, what is everyone using to charge their Bands? I was using my computer's USB port but didn't feel like it was charging quickly enough. I switched to a 1A charger and was debating on going to 1.3A or 2.1A but didn't know if it would degrade battery life or not. does anyone know how much the band will actually pull from a 2.1A charger? what is it capped at?

I use a spare phone charger. Post #25 makes a good case for the current being in the ballpark of only 100mA. So I don't think upgrading from 1A (1000mA) is going to do anything.

the only problem with that assertion is that the Band charges from 0-80% very fast and then takes a long time to get from 80-100%. how could it be drawing a constant 200mA with it charging this way?

I didn't say it would be constant. I was pointing out what the expected peak draw would be and that a 1A source was more than adequate for charging and upgrading to 2A wouldn't help.

I've posted links before that describe how li-ion batteries are charged. It's done in stages. It would explain why the last 20% is slow.

ah I see. would like to see what the actual rate is. it seems to charge very slowly in my opinion. only putting it on the charger while i shower and get ready in the morning only gets me around 4 days of battery life or so until it is completely depleted.

it goes something like this:
Day 1 - Start at 100%
Day 2 - Put on charger, gets from 70-80%
Day 3 - Put on charger, gets from 30-60%
Day 4 - ???

The rate is not enough for this charging cycle. What do you guys do?

When I wake up, I let my band sit on my arm a bit as it seem to take a HR reading right after saying I've woken up.

Then I take it off and put it on a charger. At the same time I put my phone on charge if it's around 50%. I then do my morning routine (mostly checking up on things with the computer) and get up and prepare for the day. After showing, I'll put it on and then leave.

So I'm able to leave it on charge for about 1.5 hours a day and have it worked into my routine.

I have been having the same issues, but here is something weird. I left mine charging from empty for say 2 hours and it still said 80%. I then unplugged from the charger and restarted and to my surprise it said 100%.
