This is Verizon country. I've with since early windows mobile. I think the phones I would like will be on AT&T. I don't know one person on AT&T. Can anyone tell me from actual experience what coverage is like in southeast Iowa?

Thanks

Can't say about SE Iowa, but in SE IL most everyone goes the VZW route.
With that being said, AT&T recently bought out Alltel to get better reception in this area.
I've yet to try, but am thinking of jumping ship when my contract's up.

I was in the QC area for a few years and had AT&T. Never had any problems in that area. I dropped down to a bar or two in some areas that were super rural, but never felt like I was out of service

Thanks all for replying. I have yet to hear from anyone in the Burlington area after asking around at work. That probably says a lot. I will be talking to AT&T and Verizon. I will listen to what AT&T says about their coverage. I will also tell Verizon (15 year customer) my interest in the new windows phones but they wont care.

I used to travel to Burlington and Macomb all the time for work and school, in Burlington and for about 15-20 minutes outside the town I had excellent service with AT&T. Driving from say Burlington to Bettendorf, I'd say I had at least a bar or two for 70% of the trip (if I didn't take the highway, more like 85% of the trip if I was on the highway)

Edit: The other option would be to buy one of the new devices direct from Microsoft, it looks like they have the CDMA radios for Verizon and you would just have to get them for the unsubsidized unlocked price (which isn't too bad for the specs)

That is excellent news. According to your experience AT&T may not be as bad as I thought. If I go to St. Louis on 61 Verizon is actually non existent for a large portion of that trip. Did you travel to St.Louis by any chance? As far as Verizon letting me put the phone on their network, I am not sure they would let me do that? I am a tech pro but not in mobile so there is much I do not know. One of my work mates who is on the mobile side says Verizon's text is still on their proprietary protocol but will eventually be like everyone else. I have also heard their LTE may not work without special firmware for the radio. I truly don't know any of this for a fact. It surely would be grate if it would work on their network and they would allow it. Thanks again.
