1. Does anyone know the hyperfocal distance for the Lumia 1020 camera?

(ie by focusing your camera at the hyperfocal distance, you can ensure maximum sharpness from half this distance all the way to infinity).

It's useful to know the hyperfocal distance, so you can work out how far away you need to stand from a foreground object in order to keep both foreground and background objects in sharp focus. I never used to worry about hyperfocal distance with an iphone, because the sensor is so small pretty much everything stays in focus for most shots. With the Lumia 1020's larger sensor, maximum depth of field sharpness is harder to achieve.

2. Alternatively, when auto focusing on a distant object such as the horizon (infinity, approximately), how much of the foreground remains out of focus? I'm happy to test this myself, but wondered if there was any published info - or tests that other Lumia 1020 users have already carried out.

Many thanks
Ryan

Is it a joke ? If your L1020 is ok, just use the infinity setting, because this setting doesn't work better. Focus will be around five meters.

Why care about hyperfocal ? You can't change your aperture on the phone so you go do the math for the f 2.2 on your phone when hyperfocal only have any sence with smaller apertures.

Thanks but ... how exactly would you "do the math," as you put it?

Why would it be a joke? It's a pretty legit question. Unfortunately "infinity focus" on my 1020 is a joke (blurry as hell), like others have mentioned. Thanks for suggesting 5 metres though...

There are a few hyperfocal calculators in the Store. Unfortunately the large aperture doesn't really lend itself wel to landscape photography with hyperfocal focusing.

where the f is the aperture on your lenses, and since the hiperfocal only makes sense in landscape photography you don't shoot landscape with f 2.2 so there's no reason to care about it on the 1020. Yeah you will get some blur in the picture.

Aperture will be always 2.2 on L1020. As the sensor is so small (in size) we have virtually hiperfocal focusing at five meters. If your L1020 is almost fine (not blurry), infinity setting will give you "automatically" hiperfocal as infinity is not infinity...
