you can do this with the normal panorama app to a certain extent

just snap the pic with you on one side and then run towards the other and you have the required effect.

You are correct...you could run around the camera or tell the person who is taking the pic to not move after when they take the first pic of you until you are ready for the second one when on are more to the left or right of the first pic.
