Not surprising to me as I am guessing they are running software on a system which they don't want to break.

Yeah when it comes to specialized systems you don't get much choice in what OS it runs. Since MS actually lets you license its OS for specialized systems I am not surprised. You get what the manufacturer gives you. Unless Apple wants to waste time and money and dedicate some engineers to the company to make a Mac OS version of that specialized testing equipment that's what you will get.
