I think we're going to continue to see this for some time. Probably until two or three more generations/iterations of ChatGPT, the major companies like Microsoft are going to be racing to keep enough hardware to properly service users. They're going to have to streamline or slim sown GPT resource usage to keep this as a long term viable product.
