ASUS external DVD drive compatibility?

Hi all! Hope you're all having fun with your SP3, I sure am!
One weird thing happened today though, I tried to install some stuff with my Asus SDRW-08U5S-U DVD drive today, which works for all my other windows 8.1 devices (lenovo laptop, asus laptop...), but when I tried it with the SP3, it connected and installed the drivers, and it shows up in My Computer for a bit, and then disappears, and just keep repeating that process, I can't get it to load and browse the files..

Anyone knows what this problem could be? Is it possible that this drive is compatible with 8.1 but not with Surface pro 3? My other USB devices work fine so it's not hardware defect either.

I just made a new post about the problem I am seeing with external drive as well. This sucks. I guess it is not a huge issue nowadays since people doesn't use optical drives often. But still....

Yikes, really? Which drive do you use? I'm going to borrow my cousin's drive and see if it works, if it's a universal thing then I probably should wait for a fix rather than buying a new drive...

Does the drive get its power from the USB or from a it's own power adapter. I'm wondering if it isn't getting enough power from the USB port.

As stated in the other thread, I am having no problems with my LG Slim DVD writer that I purchased a couple of weeks ago. It was really cheap (something like $39 if I remember correctly) at Best Buy and is designed to require very little power.

Yeah I think it's officially because of the double USB which asks for too much power from the device. Need a more recent drive, time for another buy! 0.0
