AT&T/Microsoft need to promote the hell out of this phone!

Where is MS marketing these days? They are promoting the hell out of Surface & Xbox - spending MILLIONS (nearing in on BILLIONS) to make it a success. Why not with Windows Phone?

Let's see some clever advertising, make a deal with the NHL to make it the "official phone" .... do something...

I've seen a lot of Cortana commercials lately.. Granted they are not specific to the Lumia 830 but they are out there..

I agree though, they either need to push the phones or be resolved to stay where they currently are as far as market share goes. I think if they pushed it, they'd have success but they also need to entice developers to creat apps for the platform as well..

start with competitive pricing, specifically for this type of phone that straddles flagship and mid-range

They have always sucked big time at promoting the 8xx series phones.

When I went WP, the 520 was in the spotlight, as were the 1020 and 1520. 920 was getting great promotion for it's build quality... didn't hear jack squat about the 820 though... and it's a shame because that turned out to be easily the best balance between all the good Windows Phones out... and Lumia 830 carries on it's lineage in a fantastic manner.

I bought my 830 the day it was released at a Microsoft store. It was prominently displayed and the salespeople were knowledgeable about it. Haven't been to an AT&T store since release, but I went to the one in my neighborhood a couple of months ago and the salesperson was knowledgeable about the 1520 and HTC One, both of which were on display. Best Buy's display of Windows phones is shockingly lame.

I agree that the phone is a beauty and should be promoted. I had dinner with a friend Saturday who was complaining about her iPhone. I showed her my phone and she was very interested but barely knew that Windows phones existed so that made her hesitate. Promotion would fix that. As someone pointed out, I am seeing Cortana ads lately, though ...

I'm pretty sure their big idea is to hold off for a bit longer (until windows 10 is out) so then windows phone will be much more robust, we will have a s#!t ton more apps, and then when your regular Joe picks up a windows phone, and they here about all the latest and greatest in the app world, we will have it. Or more things

Only makes sense to me.

Why promote the hell out of a premature product and get everyone with a sour taste in their mouth ?

And I'm a huge windows phone fan, would never move anywhere else, I push them all the time, but for a lot of people, they still have a little bit of work to do. We are so close to getting there, but this is just the way I see it!

I'm not sure the 830 will be a huge hit due to the current position of WP, but I agree that it is a surprisingly nice phone. I saw it in the ATT store next to the M8 (Windows) and working them side by side lead me to believe that I'd get an 830 over the M8. The display is great, the form factor is very nice when holding the device, and the operation was snappy. I don't think it will appeal to spec whores but it might be very attractive to the general consumer if they actually see it and get a rep to talk to them knowledgeably about it.

The 830 is a nice phone but it has a couple of problems. The problems are MS does not care. If they did the advertising would show it. But it doesn't and they don't.

It's a fools errand buying into WP. THEY DON'T CARE. HOW MANY TIMES DO THEY HAVE TO TELL YOU BEFORE YOU GET THE HINT. THEY DON'T CARE.

What sort of problems does the 830 have? I have the 1020 now and am itching 'for something new' and am considering exchanging or replacing. The photos may not be on par with 1020, but from what I have seen they are quite good for everyday and quick use.

Basically apparently to that user the problem is Microsoft doesn't care about promoting it. So you know. No problems at all :)

Still no AT&T promotion in my area.

I'm about ready to jump ship from an iPhone and have been reading up here for a couple months. Seriously considering the 830, so I went to the local AT&T store to try one in hand. There were a dusty 1520 and 1040 in the back corner of the store. CS rep comes up and the conversation goes like this:

CS: Can I help you?
Me: [Pointing to the two Lumias] I wanted to see the 830 model.
CS: [Confused look] Which one?
Me: The 830. The new model that was just released.
CS: Uhhh... I don't know if we have that. I'll have to look in back.
Me: OK, it should come with a Fitbit band or something.
CS: [Returning from back of store] I found this... [opening box]
Me: Yeah, that's it.
CS: [Trying to read every label on the box] Let me see...
Me: That's the right one. See, it comes with the Fitbit.
CS: Oh, OK. Well there's the phone. But I can't tell you anything about it.

So, you more than get the point, but it went on from there including several minutes trying to figure out the price by scanning the box. He never succeeded, despite me quoting the price from the AT&T website. I'm guessing it wasn't even entered into their system. He asked me if I wanted him to hold it for me while I considered the purchase. I said no, I wasn't worried about the 2 he had in stock selling too quickly.

The next day, met an employee at Staples who was sporting a 1520. Started up a conversation and he knew infinitely more about WP than the guys who are supposed to be selling the phones for MS.

That's sad to hear, the AT&T stores in my area except one are truly enthusiastic about the phone. One manager was ticked off he did not have his display unit the day after release, he had people coming to see the device, but had nothing to show them. The other (A corporate store) had two employees running around with the 830 in tow.

Always found the company AT&T stores are much more enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Windows phones than the franchise stores.

My experience exactly at two separate ATT stores, both of which are Company stores, not franchise outlets. ATT staff have been pathetic with WP from day 1. Which still puts them ahead of Verizon. These phones are never going to sell unless and until MS figures out a better way, this carrier exclusive path is holding them back.

I visited the new Bethesda Maryland Microsoft Store yesterday. Unless they had another phone section elsewhere, the phone section was rather small and there were no 1520 or 830 phones on display. Both phones were missing! I overheard the sales associates speaking. The 1520 was damaged and I think they said the 830 was stolen. Granted these things happen, but I'd expect MS to do better especially during such a heavy shopping weekend.
