AT&T Sees

AT&T Inc. (T) sees ?challenges? for Microsoft Corp.?s Windows Phone in its attempt to pull market share from Apple Inc. (AAPL) and Google Inc. (GOOG) Android smartphones, Glenn Lurie, the company?s head of emerging devices, said.

?I think we?re still going to see a lot of challenges,? Lurie said at a Morgan Stanley conference in Barcelona. ?I?m actually a fan of the Windows devices, I?m also very excited about Windows 8 on the tablet devices, but you?re still going to have a lot of people competing for that space.?

He also expects increased competition from Research in Motion Ltd. (RIM), he said, adding that carriers want competition in smartphones.

funny thing is, carriers want competition because it means they can play hard to get with OEMs and thus let them fill your nice new phone with branding crud, undeletable freebies and screen prints of their logo all over the outside.

Powerful phone makers make them less powerful. So no surprise at all that he makes a point of saying how tough WP7 will find it and that it'll have competition from the dead-in-the-water RIM.

Yes, they want competition but wont actually sell you the competition! Normal corporate BS.
