I also picked up a Halide Design S/PDIF Bridge (24/96) from a "local forum".

That also worked nicely off the USB of my Surface (with a DAC with RCA coaxial input).

NOTE: I'm using a Surface Pro running Windows 8.1 and JRiver Media Center

I have my surface RT connected to a USB DAC. It sounds great. But i am puzzled..... If the Surface is sending digital sound files to the DAC, how can the volume control buttons on the side of the Surface control the volume of the stereo? How can the Media Monkey equalizer possibly change the data going to the DAC?
