Hi, I'm unable to backup my phone settings and apps. It stops at 37% then it go all the way to 96% and then it says that there is an error while backing up. Anybody have an idea what the problem may be?

I have a similar problem. Twice this week, gets to 98% and fails. Sometimes deleting previous backups solves this. But this time, it didn't for me.

Do you see apps getting greyed out? If so, try uninstalling them. For me it included whatsapp, wechat, messanger, and twitter. Try one by one if you need to.

Hope it works.

I want to tell you my story with backups, I backed up my Lumia 3 separate times before installing different builds of Windows 10:
Build 10052:
I backed up my Lumia 720 successfully with zero issues, after rolling back to 8.1, restoring the backup works as it should be, my start screen, my apps, and all of my settings were restored!
Build 10080 (try no1):
backing up filled at 98, restoring filled at 96, all apps+ most of my settings were restored, the start screen wasn't though
Build 10080 (try 2):
Backing up succeed at 100, but restoring filled at 93, everything were restored except start screen :-\

Conclusion: It seems that this feature is buggy and must be fixed, I really like it + you can't find similar feature on any other OS.
My phone is running 8.1.1 maybe update 2 has fixed it, we still need someone to confirm :|

Sorry for poor English!

Nah, i think your English is much better than the people i know. I think it is buggy too but love how it gets it done if it works. Tried making a complaint or giving feedback? Perhaps to @LumiaHelp on Twitter.

I solved my problem. First I deleted the old backup, then I made soft reset amd then again tried to make backup and .. Success! All done :D thanks to everyone for the help!

This trick doesn't work everytime, sometimes you need to set a low resolution lock screen, and sometimes you need to uninstall some apps (twitter+ WhatsApp for me)

I've had the same problem recently. Comes and goes. Many times it is dependent on the current Wi-Fi that my phone is connected to. Sometimes one hotspot will work and another will not. Sometimes it won't work one evening, but works fine the next morning.

Yeah, and sometimes I have to uninstall an app or do a soft reset. This week, however, I was unable to get it to work until after a hard reset, which I was doing anyway. I only missed 3 days worth of backup, so no big deal. Didn't add anything except what was already saved on the cloud, so I'm good this time. Could have been much worse, but I make a habit to make sure it gets backed up at least once per week.

Sometimes using a desktop computer, going into OneDrive and manually purging old backups will help as well. Doing it from the phone doesn't usually help in my case.

Yesterday I tried to backup and restore my phone for the first time ever. I have a Lumia 925 and I really don't have nor keep a lot of stuff on it, but it was taking about a minute and a half for it to boot up, so I figured it was time to flush it and start anew. I used the backup feature and it stalled at 96% for quite a while, but I just left it and let it go. Eventually it did finish and showed the backup and the date for the backup. I left it for probably a half hour for it to finish, though.

However, when it came to restoring the backup from a factory reset I was not asked to restore from a backup and when I check my backups (using the same account log-in) it doesn't show that I have any backups to restore from. I guess it's a GOOD thing that I didn't/don't have anything important to have to restore! :winktongue:

The GOOD thing that came out of it all is that now my phone boots up in less than 30 seconds - ZOOM!
