It could be. Microsoft decently discounted the Band 2 heavily which does look like clearing inventory for the next version. So far there hasn't been any leaks yet.

think i'll wait for version 3. if stock is being cleared, i wonder if this is early enough to see something before christmas. i would think so...lots of amazon sellers show it as out of stock already.

I was wondering the same thing today for these reasons:

- The Health app on Windows phone is quite unreliable and we haven't seen updates for a while
- The website is behind the app and hasn't been updated in quite a while. Walking is not included on the website and the data effectively vanishes.

I hope there is a Band 3 with new features, and perhaps the lack of updates is due to focus on an entire new version of the Band. Only time will tell...

You can have my band 2 of you want. It's rubbish. The rubber band super split after 6 months. A common issue.

Then just change it for a new better one. Microsoft support is great and the new band is without any problems.
lotnumer 1608 and higher has improved rubber to solve the problems some people had.

The walking/hiking data is on the website, it's just harder to find. Under "Activities" on the left, click on it and it should show Run, Bike, and then Explore. Your hikes/walks are explores on the website.

Consistently inconsistent!

It's not included in the comparison page though - it's like I do no exercise on there as I mostly do hikes and walks! :)

I just did a search for Band 3 rumors and came across these from Softpedia:

On July 6, they reported that they'd heard that the Band 3 is in the works. Despite some people expecting a launch could have happened as early as last month, which it obviously didn't, Softpedia's sources told them that the next version wouldn't be revealed until October.

This article also stated that after replacing the rubber in the straps with a more durable type, they continued receiving reports of the rubber tearing. According to Softpedia, this prompted them to stop refilling stock for their retail partners.

They linked back to a previous article explaining that, as early as June 24, Best Buy had started showing the Band 2 was out of stock.

Since these rumors are from over a month ago, I'm not sure if Best Buy ever did get any more inventory in the past month. Maybe Best Buy and Amazon are just now getting their warehouse inventory low enough that it is financially feasible to discount the Band 2's by so much because they are not getting any more.

Microsoft's own stores, having the bulk of the total retail units available, might not be at the point yet to try to clear their shelves.

This is false. They have not improved the band after lot number 1608. I have had over lot number 1621 and still no improvement. Besides the band tearing, the charging issues are still prevalent even with newer ones.

best buy did end of life on these in June. They are not selling them anymore and my Microsoft store has informed me that Microsoft has put constraints on their inventory because of the issues. They have not had the larges in for over a month and do not have them displayed except for a little hook in the back

Going to a new model would be a good way to leave complaints behind. No matter how well they fix the 2, there will always be the stain caused by the early models.

I'm interested in the suggestion that it will have interchangeable bands. That suggests ALL the electronics is in the display. That would pretty much fix all of the Band 2's faults, although I have to wonder about battery life. And if the band does tear, if it's a $10 user-replaceable item, who cares?

That is a killer for me too. I trek for hours in the hills near my home and my heart rate is regularly around 150 for extended periods. According to the dashboard I have never recorded a heart rate maximum and my VO2max looks as if I live in wheelchair.

That is just what I get. The Band is quite unreliable on Windows 10 Mobile and you'd think if they cared about either they'd make them work reliably as they are first party devices. It's like Apple pushing a Watch out that only works 30% of the time... first party products should showcase technology.
