Battery life with black/GDR3

How is the battery life with your new update? Is it worse, better, or nothings changed at all?

I have a L820 and i dont think that battery has improved..infact i have been getting around 2 days battery life since amber

sent either from my Nokia Lumia 820 or HTC Desire HD

I used the "Amber" version for only one day and then went to "Black" so I don't have a clue what the battery performance was as opposed to now.

Having said that, when I go to bed with a full battery (100%) I wake up the next morning with a 21% battery. I for one, don't think this is normal..

Install a battery meter app...one that keeps a log and detects battery drains.
There are several for free in the store.

I managed to spot one app that was draining my battery by using "Battery Widget"...
Blocked its background activity in settings and voila...8-10hrs longer battery life...

To clearly see how your battery drains and avoid drainers, use one of those battery apps.

I doubt the gdr3 update would affect the battery, but it's possible if the update adds some background activity draining the battery.

Sounds like what I need - battery life on my 920 is appalling after update to black... went from 100% to 33% in about 8 hours with very light use.
But please can you tell us *which* app(s) you downloaded to enable you to identify the tasks draining the battery?

EDIT: In the meantime I've used the built in one and switched on the battery drain option (which I'd never noticed before).

I have always found that the battery seems to drain very rapidly *after* I've used maps or GPS/driving apps... even when they've been exited and they're not running in the background. Call me paranoid but I've actually got into the habit of switching the phone off for a few minutes then back on after I've used GPS for any length of time.... don't know why but it seems to reset the battery usage back to normal.

I think every time you use here maps it stays on in the background. If after using it (every time) you go into settings and then across to applications and background tasks you will see that it's working in the background so you need to block it every time your finished using it.

Battery Widget is what I use because it has a decent log of battery drainage and statistics to back it up.

The free version of Battery Sense is also quite good, especially the paid version, although the free one has everything you need.
It also provides another algorhythm to calculate remaining battery time, and even lets you choose from that or the standard WP algorhythm.
The Battery Sense algorhythm takes a while to calibrate correctly, but it is actually more accurate from that point on...

Those are the two I found to be most usefull.

Off course the app doesn't directly tell you which apps are responsible, but by testing and comparing the drainages by turning off some suspected drainers, cross referencing with the logs you keep, after a while, some things naturally start to pop out.

By any means, tunr on the battery saver option, turn off data connection, turn off location unless you intent to use the feature, and set wifi to not search for new networks. Those by themselves will make a pretty big difference.
