Battery on screen

I have a problem with my WP 7.8 . The icon for the battery shows a question mark, and when battery is low, a heart. Ok, but I can never see a percentage of the energy left (e.g. 70%). I tried a lot of things, but nothing solved that problem. I am looking for an app to pin to screen at least, but no luck either.
Can I do something about this or should I simply change my phone ?

I would try disabling battery saver mode (which is what the heart is from) and then letting the battery drain completely and then recharge it. If that doesn't fix it, you can back up your stuff and try a factory reset. If still a problem, the phone likely has a defective battery and will need to be serviced/replaced.

thanks, I tried that to, no luck. What is odd is that if I go to settings - battery saver , that % works fine under " battery information" . I saw a bunch of apps for WP8 but none for WP7.... oh well.
