Battery question

I have a real dumb question.

When the battery is drained and you go to hit the power button, it vibrates but should it display that red battery image showing its a dead battery or just vibrate?

Sorry if its awkwardly worded. By the way I'm on the 8.1 developer preview - does that matter?

It does both this is a normal function.
