I am fully aware that this might be better suited to the Windows 8 section, but I've had my Surface Pro since launch date, love it, and I feel like we're a rare breed of individuals :winktongue:

Thus, we most likely have the same taste in games. So far I have

Gunslinger - A fun temple-run style 3D run and jump ($1.50)

All the rest are free

Ballstrike - A physically demanding game that uses the webcam
SNES 8x - An emulator for all the SNES classics
Bugs - A simple touch game where you avoid enemies and eat small flies
A Bird Story - Originally iOS, coserve energy while tapping the screen to stay in the air and avoiding obstacles
Wordament - Multiplayer word game, a must have
Logoment - Like wordament but with logos from different countries; identify them during a short period of time, compare with others

I really try to seek out the fun, quirky, indie games, especially ones worth forking over 99 cents for. That's what makes the Windows 8/WP community so unique, it hasn't yet been overly commercialized. Xbox games are cool too. That being said, let 'er rip! Let's hear your favorites, maybe a small synopsis and why it's so appealing to you.

I say download Steam and look at the indie games there.

only games I have played are civ and minecraft.

touch enabled games are pretty far and few between... the low commitment bite sized tablet games don't tend to keep me engaged unfortunately... And I find games on both metro and WP to be ridiculously expensive... compared to apple/android

I recommend Game Dev Tycoon. It's 7 bucks in the Market but well worth it. I play it non stop for hours.

Good stuff so far guys! @bauerbach, I agree, looking for something a little more substantive than run & jump, maybe a good adventure platformer. Microsoft sort of dug itself a hole by de-incentivizing devs, making old apps backwards compat. Many might not see W8 as a viable market for that reason. But I wouldn't have paid for a tablet that has no basic computing abilities, considering I'm a student, who needs to use outdated flash sites to complete hw and use photoshop/premier pro to edit stuff (all of this works great on the Surface Pro). Let's hope that as W8 takes off, more devs get busy. Also, the WP-W8 Unity (for game/app purchases) could at least incentivize WP devs to make enough changes so their apps run well on both platforms. Downloading Game Dev Tycoon now :orly:

Game dev tycoon is a ton of fun 😊

Ill be happy if more games come out with touch support a la civ.

but... on the other hand... perhaps a touchscreen just isn't an ideal interface medium for most elaborate games. That's just a suspicion, touch is very imprecise relative to a mouse, and its not often that you would want to click something, and obscure your view of it at the same time. I could only imagine the horror in a FPS.

Civ works well because there is no urgency in the game, Not many games around like that anymore.

But that's why I love the pro, Im totally fine pulling out the wireless mouse and attached keyboard when its time to game.

Fruit Ninja is AWESOME on the Pro!

I read that in a list, but it costs money now, yes?... :\ I already paid for it on WP and I'm banking on getting the unity. I paid a good 3 bucks for it when it first came out on WP7

I've spent a lot of time playing Robotek on W8 and WP8. Free and very addicting. You battle other robots through a slot machine type interface.

Jetpack Joyride is one of my favorite games recent memory, and it's free. Gameplay is super simple - it's one button, but the physics are implemented well and it gets pretty addictive.

all these are turning out to be pretty good. Anyone know any good puzzlers? Those tend to work pretty well with touch also, and some can occupy me for quite a while.

Skulls of the Shogun is pretty good.

Also, Skyrim works pretty well if you set resolution to 720p and most settings to low (AA and AF off, Texture quality medium, Radial blur and Shadow detail to low, Water to reflect sky, grass fade to 1). Still looks surprisingly good, and plays pretty well on the Surface Pro (with a mouse).

Untangle Me is actually very well done. Microsoft Mahjong and Minesweeper are good classics. There are several Sudoku games and FlipPix Art appears to be a Picross clone. Can't speak for the quality of that particular one, but I love Picross. If you can deal with Desktop games that don't work with touch, check out popcap.com . Peggle, Bookworm and Plants vs. Zombies are some of my favorite games of all times.

*Edit* FlipPix Art Zoo and Jurassic are both free on Android, so I downloaded them to my Kindle Fire to try them out. They work well with touch, but are a little slow with the marking process because of the gratuitous animations. I also find the art kind of ugly, but I'm a graphic designer, so I'm hard to please in that department. The mechanics and accuracy with a finger are well implemented, so It's probably worth the $2 if you like Picross games, considering the lack of alternatives.

I just installed Torchlight 2 last night and to my surprise it has some touch capabilities. The only issue I found is that you have to double tap some things. If anyone knows a way around this let me know please. Give it a try though.

If you want to play console quality games with great settings on your Surface Pro like a champ, download Onlive cloud gaming service, I use it on mine and it's amazing. Best of all the games use NONE of our precious disk space! :)

I used to play games on Steam, you can take a look. And for games, you can get professional suggestions from Steam.

Good luck!

I installed Bioshock 2 (game from 2010) just to see how it would run. It's surprisingly good, only some minor tearing on complex action sequences running at 1920x1080 on high graphics. It definitely sends the fan on the Surface into high gear; I'd actually never heard it before I ran this game. The only downside is, in addition to installing the game, I had to create a virtual image of the original disk since the game requires the DVD to play-- cost me another 8GB. But now I can sit in a caf? and drill corpses to death! (If that's your thing).
