Better to wait for Windows 10.x or 11?

Windows Central Question

So many applications and hardware devices I use for production work on an XP desktop machine were incompatible with Win 8.1, that am using the XP machine for production work and got a new Win 8.1 laptop for surfing the web and e-mail. The only reason I can see right now to upgrade the laptop to Win 10 is that it's free. Maybe I should just keep using 8.1 until MS stops supporting it and then get a nice new laptop at that time. What are the advantages of using Win 10 only for surfing the web and e-mail?

Upgrade [for free] to Windows 10. Take it for a ride for a week or so. You'll see what's an advantage to you.
Don't like it? Downgrade back to Windows 8.1 hassle-free. Nothing to lose.

Also, as far as we know, there's no Windows 10.x or Windows 11. It'll just be Windows 10 from here on out. Different builds, same name.
