This question is relevant to anyone with matte black Lumia but I currently have a 1520 so I put it here. How do you keep the black polycarbonate from looking smudgy and splotchy?

It shouldn't be looking smudgy and splotchy at all...that's the benefit of the matte finish. If you're seeing that it means there's something likely wrong with the finish.

at least not at first....you should see what 1 year did to my matte black 920. smugdy and splotchy with scratches. even the benefits of matte finishes wears off over time

I'm not seeing it. I keep mine super clean and keep a Nokia case on it. I've just read lots of post all over the internet about people who have a hard time keeping theirs clean. It must be true right.

just got a very slim case that hardly add any size, sort of the same finish as the phone itself.

Chances are in modern life at some point you will drop/scuff it, and as much as we all want just the bare phone, you really are better getting at least a slim case.

As soon as the black incipio feather case is in stick I'm buying one of those. Right now I'm using Nokia CP-623 case with the flap cut off.

My Nokia CP-623 case has just arrived and I gotta tell you, it gives the 1520 a whole new look and feel. And it should keep the matte finish in pristine condition for the life of the phone. To answer your question, I think the only way you'll ever truly keep your phone looking good is to stick it in a case

How do you feel about the flap on the Nokia case?

The flap could be better. It feels a little flimsy and obviously doesn't have any magnetic qualities, like the ipad cover. That said, I've been propping my phone up on it all day and it works well. You can either prop the phone up so it's nearly vertical (good for watching videos) or when it's slightly propped up by about 30 degrees, which is good for landscape typing.

In brief; the flap could and should have been made from a sturdier material, particularly as it's just cost me in the region of ?22.

The back od the case is excellent.

Overall, you're definitely left with the feeling that the back, front and sides of your phone are well protected and won't come to harm.

I do. I have the white case on a black 1520. I took the case out of the package and promptly cut the flap off with a razor blade.

I felt like it would be in the way. My favorite case has always been the Incipio Feather Case. I like just a thin case on the back. That's it. The white looks pretty cool on the black. How much did yours cost in US dollars?

In UK pounds it was ?22.......so that puts it at about $36 at todays exchange rate.

Where did you buy yours? Reason I ask is that I got mine through a seller on Ebay, simply because it's unavailable on the Nokia site. It's been listed as "coming soon" on Nokia's website for weeks now.

I was pretty surprised when an original case actually arrived, I was expecting some cheap rip off.

I just can't figure out how private sellers have them available and Nokia doesn't even have its own branded products for sale on its website.

Obviously, there's every chance that the case I have is a fake, but if it is it's a really good fake, from the blue Nokia packaging to the imprinted Nokia logo on the back of the case.

I bought mine at my local At&t store for $40. They had that or a leather Belkin folio case.

The matte finish will still pick up grease even if it does not pick up finger prints as easily, you can probably wash it off, I use a towel when I get some fats stains on my keyboard for the computer and it is easy to remove. Eventually it might turn a bit shiny when the irregular surface which makes it matte is smoothed out a bit by wear and stains. My 920 still after a full year of use almost looks new if looked at from a slight distance. Sure at close range with the right light, you can see some micro scratches in the plastic, but for a cell phone, that is expected for those of us who are not interested in a case.

I would suggest a extreme guard body protector it's just like a screen protector for the back and front of the phone....eBay 499 with free shipping. I have it on the back and front. Just do a search on ebay.
