I just bought the blackjack 2 with the unlimited data plan. I was just wondering if by using google maps, will my provider (at&t) charge me for using the gps installed in the phone? or does the gps service they charge for refer to the telenav?

basically, my question is, will i expect to see unexpected charges on my bill if i use googlemaps?

thanks in advance,
ed

Google Maps for WM smartphone was recently updated. I was given an option and downloaded the newer version. It now has some rough traffic info. I saw red or green lines on major expressways in Chicago. I also got a route summary first and then an option to go to the map and an ability to go back to the summary. Each step of the summary has a link to the map of that turn. Also, when I first used it I would often get a screen telling me that the data connection was lost and I do not seem to get it anymore. This was a pleasant surprise. I just wish Google would allow a user to save a route. I could not find such an option.

You've got to install the hack to use the GPS with Googlemaps and as far as my bills reflect, there's no charge to use the GPS.

Here's more on the GPS hack.

i haven't installed the hack yet, but googlemaps has been working fine. i'm not sure if it's using the cell towers to pinpoint my location or the gps, but it works pretty well still. So i don't know if wm updated itself or googlemaps did but it works fine for me... for now.

It might be utilizing the cell towers to pinpoint your location because Googlemaps worked fine for me also but after I installed the hack I tried GPS and it located my pinpoint location and I watched the little blue dot being me drive right down the road...so cool.
