Bluetooth Tethering PLEASE!!!!!

The issue is not about Bluetooth speed compared to wifi speed.

The whole argument is about a user's local bluetooth syncing and Microsoft's cloud sync.

Bluetooth has a small range of around 30 feet while wifi is around 100 feet, unblocked. So, for the range needs, wifi wins.

For speed, it just depends on the type of each that you are using.

They both have security protocols that are to keep people from hacking the network. So, once again, just depends on your device or embedded hardware.

Microsoft didn't put the Windows Phone on the market feature complete and they and we knew that. The Apollo release later this year should alleviate some of the issues, though.

As for battery life between wifi or Bluetooth sync on the Windows Phone, it is a moot point because when you sync the phone to Zune through wifi, the phone is supposed to be plugged in to an electrical outlet.

We're talking about BT tethering not Synching.

Did you even bother reading the OP's post?

LMAO... All of this and as usual people would rather argue than actually find an answer to the question.

If you don't know the answer keep you comments to your self.

I restate the question "HOW TO BLUETOOTH TEHTER THE WINDOWS PHONE 8" In my case I am trying to connect it to a ASUS 300TX-AC with windows 8 pro and it will pair and share files but not join the PAN.

Again do NOT tell me why you think your way is better. I am not here to listen to why you think you are smarter.. Trying to solve a challenge.

Thank you again for any actual help in answering the question.

Unfortunately, WP8 does not have PAN or DUN capabilities. Object Exchange is the only new profile MS added from WP7.x. BTW, in spite of what all the haters who shredded me say, I've run mobile speed tests with BT PAN & Wi-Fi tethering (on a webOS device) and the speeds are almost identical. We'll just keep that info on the down-low.

Thank you fatclue_98 Finally a straight answer. LOL just so you know an IOS device does it without a hitch. No need to even install a driver.. >.< But my WP8 device is crippled.. So MS's M.O. sometimes.

And yes as a CCNP I can tell you there IS a reason I am looking at using Bluetooth tethering over WiFi.
1. Battery consumption - BT 4.0 is far and above less of a battery hog than WiFi radio.
2. Heat - A WiFi radio antenna can get above 100 Degrees. One must remember that WiFi is trying to be an Omni-Di Antenna and will carry multiple users much further away than BT. While BT only lets one device tether. (which is exactly what I want, I don't want my users carrying a wireless router around in there pocket)
3. WiFi Internet sharing will drop itself if it isn't used for 5 min.
4. Security - While WiFi certainly has an adequate security I must rely on the end user to NOT be an ***** and change anything. And yes I know about mobile provisioning. Too damn expensive so far to implement for 100 cellular phones.
5. as a replacement to the built in cellular cards on our current laptop fleet. For some reason they want new Tablet-PCs and to be able to use the internet while in the field. Silly Users.. :winktongue:
6. and yes you are correct, as someone that actually understand the difference between Mbps and MBps the speed coming from BT 4.0 vs WiFi is not an issue.

Preaching to the choir my brutha.

Sorry that wasn't meant for you. That was for the wizards of smart that commented on something they obviously don't know anything about.

Thanks for your help!!

Bluetooth Tethering,

Is there a plan to get in in Windows phone 8? If so when can we expect it to become available for download, as a update, app, or what ever.

Thanks,
Wouter

The very popular navigation system Tom Tom recently launched a new range of products.
BUT, in order to be able to obtain live traffic information, it requires a bluetooth tethering connection.

Of course, this is no problem for users of Iphones, Android phones and Blackberrys...
But, as Microsoft for some obscure reason decided to discontinue this with Windows phone 7, it cannot obviously be used.

I just experienced this the hard way as I tried to connect my Nokia Lumia 900 (which othewise is a great phone).

Give us a break Microsoft, because you are going to have thousands of customers that will be experiencing the same problem as me due to the popularity of Tom Tom worldwide.

How about that "new agility" that Steve Ballmer has been talking about?
Take the challenge and address this asap.

Let me be the first to tell you that there are Einsteins on this forum shredding me and my ideas about BT tethering who will tell you that Nokia Drive allows you to download maps for offline use. It's a great app and I use it myself, but it's so Apple-esque to force users to adopt to their systems. We complain about Apple and their "we know what users want" philosophy and yet MS does the same in some areas.

Is GDR3 offering this functionality now? I remember I read this in GDR3 feature list but guess need some App to make it exposed to users?

TomTom is good example why Bluetooth Tethering should be added. But it's not the only case. A lot of new cars have their own internet browsers and a lot of other internet features but they need Bluetooth Tethering to make use of it. With Windows Phone it's impossible.

I totally Agree. My BMW and the ones of my wife need a Bluettoth PAN connection to use some important feature of the iDrive system (email, sms, maps photo and other cool feature) that are not available anymore form when I've switch from iPhone to WP8. So PAN bluetooth it's a feature that MUST BE PRESENT in a smartphone like a Lumia. I'm waiting for the relaese of 8.1 here in switzerland then I will start to think if go back to iPhone waiting for the 6th gen.
