Branding Preference?

I just opened my mail to see that Microsoft had sent me an add for the 640XL. The add was nice with great pics. I noticed the big Microsoft wording and wondered what people preferred. Do you prefer the wording or perhaps just the logo? I have a 1520 with Nokia branding which isn't to popular here in US. So when people see it their like...Nokia?! Maybe Microsoft is better...especially since the company is cool again.

I don't care much about these things, but considering that we already have the Windows logo as a home/start button on the bottom of our devices, having an additional "branding" one on top might look a little odd. So I'd prefer having it simply say "Microsoft".
Hmm... Is Microsoft really cool again? The majority of people don't seem to think so. At least not yet. :)

My preference would be to show the branding on the boot screen only, but to show nothing on the actual device.

Very much so. Carriers are like a drug-crazed DIY enthusiast - they just don't know when to stop.

I used to really hate turning on a device and having an operator logo shoved in my face.

But, there's an easy solution - only buy unlocked kit (if available for <region>).

The problem is most of the unlocked international devices don't support the LTE bands used by the US carriers. :unhappy:

Whoops, I understood the OP was referring to the OEM logo/name on the device. If it's about carriers, I wouldn't want their name, logo or whatsoever. Neither on the device itself nor on bootup. Which is basically, why I only purchase unbranded, unlocked devices.

The US carriers put their name and logo on the physical device, in addition to putting it on the boot screen. :unhappy:

Yeah I'm talking about MS logo not the carrier logo. I hate the latter.

By "cool" I meant interesting. Lets face it...there is a positive buzz about Microsoft again since Nadella took over with the mobile first, cloud first vision. Lots of people are looking forwards to Win10 not just us fan boys and gals.

Mkay.. I'm not really convinced, as most people I know are still very skeptical when it comes to Microsoft. They're still considering them the monopoly abusing company they've been considered 20 years ago. When in fact that's an attribute more suitable for Google.

I find that I run into a lot of resistance based on nothing, just that it's Windows, but I've also come across a lot of people who are very curious about my Windows phone and even the other products. They just are totally uninformed. A friend thought that outlook.com was a paid service, and most people around me have never even seen a Windows phone. Several people can't figure out what kind of phone I have, so Microsoft listed on it might help them out. I'm not too particular on weekdays written on it. So far the only two smartphones I've had only put the brand, not the carrier.

As far as branding preference goes, I look forward to getting Microsoft emblazoned on my phone. However, I'm afraid it will just get covered up with a case anyway, because I don't run my phone naked.

You'll find that usually the same people that think of Microsoft as the monopoly abusing company of 20 years ago also tend to think of Google as a company that is looking out for the best interest of the consumer.

I see that a lot on tech sites and android fan sites (which make up a small part of the actual population), but I don't see people out in the real world thinking of Microsoft that way any longer. At least not where I live. Most are either unaware of what Microsoft is doing or are looking forward to Windows 10.

As far as the people out there that "hate Windows", they generally just hate a particular version of Windows, and it's mostly Vista or 8. For the most part, those same people continue to use it because they see it better than the alternative, which is pay for an upgrade, buy a new computer, pay the price of a Mac, or install Linux. Not saying it is a better alternative, but many think so.

Most people on the street actually think they have to be running Windows to have Office on their PC. Strange but true. Then again, most people can't tell you who the mayor of their town is, or find their **** with both hands, so what are you going to do about that?

I hear you. What's funny is that with Google people are the product! Our information is what they really want.

I'd prefer no branding but at least "Nokia" was short and iconic. "Microsoft" has nearly twice as many letters. Will it cover twice as much space?
