Building an app?

My PC is Windows 7, phone Windows 8.

Went to: Windows Phone Dev Center
Downloaded: Windows Phone SDK 8.0 Update 3 Emulators

Got a prompt I need to be running Windows 8 when I went to install...

Am I correct in understanding I can't take a stab at making my own app, until I upgrade my PC to Windows 8?

The SDK's for Windows 7 all seem to be only compatible for WP7.

The WP 8 SDK has emulators which run on Hyper-V which is only present in Windows 8 Pro

You need windows 8 pro 64 bit with minimum 4GB RAM. The 32 bit wont work.

you will require Windows 8 pro 64 bit with 4gb ram or more.
if you plan to run WP emulators you will need Slat Capable machine.
the processor should have virtualisation technique.

There is a modded Visual Studio 2012 that will work on Windows 7, but I don't know if it still works. It's somewhere here/or over at XDA-developers.

The previous one works for 7.8, which I believe will still work on WP8 devices.

But for the most part if that hack doesn't work, you will need Windows 8 to target Windows Phone 8.
