AT&T owns Cricket so if I go to an AT&T store can I get a Cricket plan? I don't see any Cricket stores near me. I would like to keep my Verizon number (which is why I'm hesitant to sign up online)

No. Cricket stores are separate from regular AT&T stores like the way Boost Mobile stores are separate from regular Sprint stores (Sprint owns Boost).

I heard that if I bring my own device I get a discount on normal AT&T. Is this true? I'm planning on getting a 1520.3 (RM-938) since the AT&T 1520 is crap.

Yes an unlocked device can be used. You probably won't get LTE though.
