Can I get some help with a few questions about OneDrive?

Questions About OneDrive

I'm currently working on moving my absolutely massive store of music onto my OneDrive, just as another backup. However, I want to make sure I have enough space. I understand that when you buy a Windows Phone you're given some space on OneDrive for free.
How much space do I have? Is it permanent or do I have to 'renew' it after a time? I've bought two Windows Phones, do I have double the space?
I've already ported over about 500 songs, and it's went over without fuss, so I'm assuming I have at least 5GB of space. I have a scattering of pictures as well, but it's mostly music. I believe I have 15GB of space, but I'm not certain (thus this thread). I'd appreciate help, thank you.

The two Windows Phones I currently own are a Nokia Lumia 520 and a Nokia Lumia 830. The 830 was bought last Christmas and the 520 at least a year before that (possibly longer).
The music files are predominantly mp3, with some wma and a couple of m4a files.
I'm dragging the music directly from the flashdrive it's stored on (another backup...I'm paranoid about my music) to the OneDrive folder.

Hmm, I don't think having two Windows Phones will double the OneDrive storage if those two phones are under the same account. If you've used two different accounts, then you should have two OneDrive storage accounts as well with an effective double size.

You can check the storage information immediately in your onedrive.live.com page - the amount of space remaining will be shown at the left side of the page. I think that storage space is permanent (as long as Microsoft exists or their terms and conditions change).

I've got 25.5GB free space in my account, so you should be able to access that kind of storage space, too.

You get 15GB of OneDrive for life for each Microsoft Account you have.

If you agree to upload your camera roll automatically to a OneDrive it earns another 15GB for life.

Referrals can earn you more.

If you use Bing Rewards in the US you can easily earn a free 100GB for one year and have no issues cashing in such a reward annually.

Office 365 subscriptions include 1TB of OneDrive which can be shared among 5 users.

Microsoft makes it pretty easy to earn permanent or annual increases in OneDrive.

Have you considered whether OneDrive is the best way to back up your music files? I see it more as another drive but in the cloud- i.e. a place for me to store things I can't get back from anywhere else (e.g. non-commercial photos/videos).

I personally used iTunes Match as I also happen to use iPhone/iPad/Apple TV so it made sense for me to pay an amount each year but get high quality access to everything everywhere.

Have you considered whether OneDrive is the best way to back up your music files? I see it more as another drive but in the cloud- i.e. a place for me to store things I can't get back from anywhere else (e.g. non-commercial photos/videos).

For one, I simply despise iTunes. I've tried using it several times and the experience is just horrid. And that freaking update software is invasive and has actually caused my computer to crash before. It's like the longer you let it sit there the harder it is to exit out of.
Anyways, I'm not storing my music on OneDrive, it's just another back up. Again, I'm paranoid about my music so I have lots of backups. I have all my music on a microSD card (phone), a USB drive, a separate folder on my desktop, and then the original copies spread out elsewhere in my computer.
Thank you for your help, everyone. Is the 15GB permanent for as long as I have a Microsoft Account? And from what I see all my pictures upload automatically, does that grant me another 15GB?

Hey Zach... Sign into OneDrive on your PC browser. On the left sidebar at the bottom, click "Get more storage" and it will take you to a page showing exactly how much you have and why... Also any ways to get more.

Yes, the 15GB is yours for the life of the Microsoft Account. It used to be less, it may grow to be more in future. :wink:
