Can I get the update without a SIM?

Update without SIM

I have a Nokia 822 which I use as an MP3 (Daily driver is Nokia Icon). I would like to find a way to update my 822 to 8.1 so I can get some of the music updates to the OS. Is it possible to do this without going to verizon? (822 and Icon take different size SIM cards)

Updates come over wifi.

When using Wi-Fi it should be possible to update the device. I have a spare Lumia 920, installed with a Microsoft account, without SIM and it received the update yesterday.
