I've installed Windows 10 on machines that are 9 years old and it runs fine. I'd recommend no less than 8GB of RAM though.

Free upgrades still work, and least in certain scenarios. If you take a Windows 7 PC and do a fresh install of Windows 10, it will activate with the Windows 7 product key.

I should have left a disclaimer that it worked the last time I tried it, which was maybe a couple months ago. But I’ve done it many times since the free upgrade was supposed to have ended. I don’t do any tricks or pull any shenanigans. It just works.

They've probably just left it open for free downloads. The more people that upgrade to W10, the better.

I can't even find the hardware requirements for lean, not published yet

I don't think Lean makes too much of a difference on older PCs since even old, unupgraded computers that meet Windows 10 requirements may still have at least 80 GB of storage. From what I can tell, Lean reduces 10's footprint but doesn't inherently make it lighter when running.
