Hi All, I have an unlocked 8X on Vodafone UK. Seeing as DS is carrier dependant, does that mean its impossible for it to be installed on an unlocked (and therefore unbranded) phone?

Thanks, this is the thing though on an unlocked phone you don't seem to get carriers updates, or do you?

I also have an unbranded / unlocked phone from my carrier (most Dutch carriers don't brand their phones). Therefore I don't have datasense and receive updates from HTC directly. Unfortunately if you have an unlocked phone there is no way to get datasense.

So if I have a unlocked, branded (Rogers) 8X phone, on another carrier's network (Telus), where do I get my update from, and when?
I haven't received GDR2 yet - I've been checking regularly.
From what you say, I'll never have Data Sense on my phone?

Exactly, doesn't seem fair does it. At least we should be able to monitor our data. Not bothered about the compression part

From Rogers.

Not necessary true. They are plenty of Nokia unbranded phones come with data sense (but there are also Nokia unbranded phones don't come with data sense). Yours dependent on Rogers. Other unbranded, not so sure. So far all unbranded HTX 8X seems not have data sense. AT&T HTC 8X GDR2 doesn't have data sense either. Data sense is part of the ROM/firmware. If you don't get it, you don't get it regardless which carrier you are on.
