Can you purchase a new battery for the lumia 1520 and what is the life of the battery

I checked my charger and it is working, but I can not charge my battery.

Yes you can buy a new battery.
Check on youtube how to replace the battery or go to a shop where they can do it for you.
But maybe the USB connector on your phone has a problem. So I would suggest to check if you can charge your phone with a QI charger.

I bought my new battery on eBay from a seller called "TSCBARGAINS" and it had all of the Nokia branding and a manufactured date of July 2015.

I replaced it in my phone last night and it works well. Like others, I had the issue where the charge status shows as 82% after a full charge. Total install time took about an hour for me. Need to heat the glue on the back of the battery with a heat source to loosen it up (I used a hair dryer) and then wedged the battery out with small screw drivers.
