Cant create documents in office products anymore

Have they changed a subscription requirement on Office in the anniversary update? I get prompted that I have to have a Office 365 subscription now whenever I try to create a document on the phone.

Correct a subscription is necessary for editing or creating a MS Office doc.

it's not needed for mobile apps, kindly check the OP, a phone is mentioned, not a pc

I know a change was made to use it via continuum, requiring a subscription, but I haven't heard anything on the phone screen.
