So, my i760 fits nicely into my case from the treo 700w, but the magnetic snap seems to turn the unit on and change the orientation of the screen.

Turning it on when i take it out would be pretty cool if it didn't rotate the screen. The magnet also turns it on when i put it away, which just eats battery life.

My point is; I've been looking on-line for a new case and some of the ones listed for the i760 also have a magnetic closure.

Could it be that this device is just so new that the manufacturers of the cases don't realize this is a problem? Or, could it be that these cases are somehow different than the one I already have? (location of the magnet, strength, insulation, etc.)

I've not heard about that magnet issue! Which case are you using? Seems very strange that it would rotate the screen - it would be very weird if the i760 used a magnet to know whether or not the kb is open.

I'll have the folks in the store check some of our magnet-latch cases with the i760 tomorrow.

Septimus,
Thanks in advance for checking it out.
I'm using the SEDIO "Premium Vertical Pouch Case for Treo.
Here: http://www.seidioonline.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=86

whenever i put the phone in or out of the case it turns on and most of the time rotates the screen too.
It's time for a new case anyway, but i'd like to get one without this "auto-on" feature.

Thanks again.

Whoa, yep - totally confirmed. It only seems to happen when you put a strongish magnet next to the battery. If you're going to use that case, I guess I'd suggest trying to put it in a few different ways to see if one way doesn't cause the issue. That or get a non-magnet case!

i've got the pocket solution leather horizontal case for my i760. it has two magnetic closure places and I haven't had any problems with the phone turning itself on. I always put it in with the screen in and the top forward. go figure mine seems just fine.

Samsung i760 cases

Check out BodyGlove's universal (holster style) case for smartphones. Mine came from a local BestBuy and is the best one I've found with a window. The fit and function are not optimun but good enough till something better is available. It's a bit of a tight fit initially but limbers up nicely with use. If the 760 is cased with the power button accessible, the Today screen (minus the date line up) and all rows of buttons are viewable but not functional because of the plexiglass thickness. Ditto all side buttons, ports and the stylus. Some custom made holes in the elastic sides targeted over the phone, quit and voice dial side buttons would allow their functionality with the 760 cased.

The following squarish looking picture is distorted. Actually case measurements (with phone inserted) are: 1.125"T X 2.625W X 4.75T
