CES - What if nothing big is announced?

I don't know why. But I have a feeling that CES won't really bring any ground breaking announcement. At the most, I expect we'll hear something about Nokia in the US. But I don't expect to really hear much in terms of the Windows Phone OS itself.

Will you guys be really bummed if some Nokia news is all we get? Or are you already expecting to wait until MWC for info on Tango or Apollo?

Always a possibility. However with 2 separate updates supposedly planned and going by past form I would expect something to be said about Tango at CES with some hints at Apollo which will get its full reveal at MWC. But I think Nokia and LTE support will definitely be the big news stories from a WP7 perspective.

You have a good point there. I suppose I should have been more specific in my original post.

I don't expect any big announcements from Microsoft.

I do expect that Nokia's announcements will make some decent news. And I do expect MS to reference Nokia.

I think the next real big thing for WP will be Apollo, till then they will be beating the Mango, LTE and Nokia drums loudly.

I totally forgot about MIX.

MS is going to need to space out their announcements strategically. So I expect real Apollo news will be put off until later. Maybe we'll get some sort of teaser or snippet that they can throw out just to keep bloggers happy.

I do think we'll hear a lot about Windows 8. Though I don't know if they'll say anything about how that affects Windows Phone.

CES is probably not the right platform to discuss Windows Phone OS. Yes, Nokia has a conference, but that's mainly to kick off their "Rolling Thunder" US marketing campaign that is rumored to start with the Lumia 900. I wouldn't expect Nokia to be at CES every year after this one. You can pretty much count on WP being discussed during MWC in February.

This is Microsoft's last appearance at CES. They may have a small booth, if anything, in the future. Micorosft has said January is not a month that aligns with product launches or marketing, so I can see why they are bailing.

Finally, Mary Jo Foley and Ed Bott have both speculated that Microsoft may even cancel MIX in favor of Build. Microsoft has said they have "nothing definitive to share about MIX at this time." Link to ZDNet article is here: Microsoft's 2012 conference dance card filling up, minus Mix? | ZDNet

No matter what, this will be an interesting year for Microsoft, Nokia, and Windows Phone.

Yeah. Just heard Mary Jo Foley talk about MIX likely being canceled on Windows Weekly.

im just disapointed on a daily basis by windows phone 7.. as a 1 phone line customer i cant accept at&t $115 a month for a windows phone for just me.. im stuck on sprint and they wont bring any new windows phones out now that they signed the deal with apple.. all i want is a 4G windows phone thats it.. and be on sprint so i dont have to pay double what i pay now with unlimited data and texting...i have been begging for over a year on sprint forums.. and microsoft twitter to bring us a new phone.. but no response.. just fed up with how companies treat an amazing new product.. that i cant ever have

if nothing new is announced. i wont be bumed.. ill just wait for the next event..

honnestly not expecting anything at the CES , next update int do for atlease an other 6months.

if they tell us every thing. its gona creat the SAME BS as mango..

- people get hyped up for nothing
- people dont get what they want or expected.
- 6months of complaint threads

ill keep my eye closed till i hold apollo in my hands this time

dont get your hopes up!.

I think they have something big they want to announce, but have held off for CES. When I read the article about MS pulling out of CES I imagined some MS exec saying to release info and being told they couldn't yet because CES was coming, (this is all in my crazy imagination) he threw all his papers off his desk and wrote a nasty frustrated email saying they weren't ever waiting for CES again.

Don't be disappointed with WIndows Phone. Your ***** should be with Sprint who has "chosen" to not carry any other WP phones. Eventually the WP tide will turn and Sprint will jump on board, but they will have already lost some valuable contracts. That's how bigger companies get bigger and smaller companies get smaller. It's all about their vision.

ATT is rumored to be showing a windows 8 4g LTE tablet! That should be good and cool if it happens!

I'm expecting more OS news at MWC and MIX. I fully expect Nokia and LTE to be the big CES news for Windows Phone. Microsoft will spend CES showing off Windows 8, particularly on tablets. Windows Phone will get its due next month.

oh trust me im so angry with sprint.. but i am also dissapointed with how lame microsoft markets WP7, i know apple and android throws money at carriers to get sales.. and i just read the other day that later this year microsoft will start doing this.. wow only almost 2 years after being released.. thats my beef.. they are far too slow with anything.. they needed to tell nokia when they partnered up that CDSM and GSM phones needed to be build at the same time, and same quality for the US and European market.. the internet exsits, we want what phones they have.. and yet no amount of emailing or twittering microsoft helps them grow a brain and do what needs to be done to sell these amazing phones.. ill say it again.. i want the nokia lumina 900 that was shown 6+ months ago... that no one in america can get...
