Facts:
-Win 7 is the existent OS of a desk top computer;
-Existent boot drive (C:) is an SSD;
-Desire to install Win 10;
-Desire to replace existent boot drive with a new larger SSD;
-I have created the requisite thumb drive for installation using the Media Creation Tool.

Now what?

Do I merely shut down the machine, unplug all external drives, etc. , install new SSD in the slot where the existent boot drive SSD resides, and then simply start the CPU with the the thumb drive installed?
If so, will the new SSD be formatted and recognized automatically in the process?

You are correct. As part of the installation, you can select the drive/partitions. When you install Windows from scratch, just select "Let Windows partition the drive" or whichever one sounds like that (I can never remember the exact wording). The installer will partition the drive correctly for UEFI install, no muss, no fuss.
