Compass Problem on HTC Titan

After upgrading to the HTC Titan, I installed and ran one of the compass apps. It asked me to calibrate the compass by doing the figure eight. After about half of the first figure eight the compass "calibrated". However, I'm not sure what it calibrated to.

The needle in any compass app will not stop rotating. It'll rotate slowly, maybe settle on a direction (most likely not north) and then start rotating again.

Is there any way to trigger a recalibration of the compass?

Has anyone else had similar a problem and resolved it?

I had the same thing happen to me. I just opened the compass app and started doing the figure 8 again and it celebrated I am assuming the compass apps are monitoring for errors and automatically recalibrate.

I had contacted HTC and they suggested a hard reset. No surprise. I did the hard reset and first thing I did was calibrate the compass, which worked. If I have problems again, I'll try Dave's suggestion.
