Microsoft recently (and briefly) passed Apple in market cap this past week, as the two companies vie for the top spot. Epic Games CEO had some interesting words to say on the matter this week.

"The European Union is about to force so-called "gatekeeper" companies to adopt a Windows-like structure for software development, and other markets like Japan and the UK are likely poised to follow."

Why should that be limited to just phones?
Lots of other products play gatekeeper to their products addons/supplids/accessories.

Most notably, consoles.

Microsoft has a path to compliance if need be, by tweaking developer mode, but Sony and Nintendo? They'll be kicking and screaming to protect the legscy of ATARI V NINTENDO, 1988.

kinda, but for video game consoles the closed store is the entire business model. it's not like smart phones which are multi-use tools. google makes money licensing out their version of Android to Samsung etc. Windows makes money licensing Windows to OEMs etc.

If consoles werent closed ecosystems, how do we make the money?
