Considering moving over to Android from Lumia 1020.

Hey guys, just having some thoughts before I go and do this.

I've been on WP since 2011 or so using the HTC Radar and now the Lumia 1020. Between me and my brother we're really the only ones I know in the area that use WP. I've always enjoyed WP and using Microsofts services which is what's kept me in the camp thus far, however, I'm starting to consider going over to Android to something like a Note 5.

I could possibly wait till next year and see what Microsoft announces for WP but what's got me thinking of switching is the fact that most of the MS services I use are now also on iOS and Android. Office, MSN news, OneDrive and things like that are all available and from what I hear, are in some ways better on Android.

Curious if anyone has any thoughts for me on what I'll be missing if I switch over, I don't know if my mind is getting clouded but other than live tiles (which I do really like), I don't see that I'll be missing much. (Cortana is also on Android)

Thoughts?

You'll be missing the cameras. The seamless integration. Especially between PC and Mobile (only getting better). But nothing I say matters.
If you want to go to Android, then do so. What people say on this forum shouldn't change what you've decided. I hope you enjoy it and I also hope to see you back here with a Windows 10 Mobile device.

Thanks for the reply Zach. I guess I should probably say with my Lumia 1020 -- since I updated it to WP8.1 way back when, my camera has been quite aweful. Auto Focus is terrible and quality isn't very good due to that. Also find video camera to never focus properly either. I've tried different camera apps which have helped a bit, but never quite fixed the problem. I probably should've gotten in touch with Nokia/MS about the hardware issue but I was around my warranty expiration date so I just kinda lived with it. Seems I'm one of the only people to have that problem so not sure what's up with it.

And yeah, the PC integration I am a little curious to see where that goes, cortinuim might be cool but not sure if I'd use it. Texting and using the phone on the computer was a big one I wanted and was waiting for and it appears I can get that functionality with Samsung's app called SideSync.

I have a feeling I'll be back to the WP camp in the future, just let it mature a little more as I do like the direction they're headed, just in Canada we don't always get the new phones that are offered which is too bad.

I always say that if you are going Android, go Nexus. The new Nexus 5X and 6P both look pretty good. My wife recently got a Nexus 6 (1st gen) and it is very cool. If you get a Nexus you are guaranteed more updates faster and all that Samsung bloat is pretty bad, IMHO.

Re: Considering moving over to Android from Lumia 1020.

I'm in the same boat.
I've been using Windows Phone for a while, but getting bored of the lack of apps and compatibility.
For example yesterday I couldn't enter a competition on my phone as the site didn't work on phone IE. My friend's iPhone did it fine.
I've got a Garmin for cycling. No app for it. Or my bank, or loads of other things.

While I like the phones themselves, there are lots of nice phones out there. The new 950s don't really have anything I'm interested in.
I use the MS services a lot - Outlook, OneDrive, Office and Cortana but they are all on Android now and actually get more attention from MS.

Do it, do it, do it. Don't let an OS ruin your life. Switch lol
