Make Sure your Cellular Data is ON. What is your Carrier.? Are you able to browse the net?
Try Switching off and try again.
another option is hard reset. Press Volume down & Power button at the same time. It will reset your phone. (Soft reset will not erase data)
I'm on T-Mobile, my data connection is solid, if I manually search for updates it's ok but it's the auto check that doesn't work
