WPCentral Question

My better half has a Lumia 510 which she has set up using a gmail address.

Contacts which she has on there cannot be synced to gmail or transferred to the sim.

How can she download them from the phone so that she can perform a factory reset, re-set up the phone with an outlook address then re-sync with that ?

You might check out the instructions for setting up syncing between google and WP. It's about 2/3 down the page. Note there are different setting instructions for different types of google accounts.

Set up or delete an email
account on Windows Phone | Windows Phone How-to (United States)

The best way to set up any WP is to use a Microsoft ID account for the phone, link the Google account in the Microsoft account (go to live.com, sign in with MS ID, go to Related accounts > Manage apps and services). This will bring all Google contacts into Outlook.com and sync with the phone natively.

I've tried this and it doesn't work.

Both the phone and google appears to see these contacts as Windows Contacts, so they wont sync with google.

I have set up the google address as an alias under her new outlook outlook address but the only contacts it has pulled across were 2 old contacts which were originally google contacts, not ant that she has since created on the phone.

Unless I'm missing something ?

Am I misunderstanding? You want contact info to be sent to google, not google contacts sent to WP? I'm not sure that's doable. It depends on Google's willingness to receive info from Outlook.

BTW, I'm not talking about setting up gmail as alias. That just sends msgs addressed to gmail to the Outlook inbox. In Related accounts, link the Google account.

I just want the contacts sending anywhere "off the device". So that I can perform a factory reset, before restoring them again.

I cant sync them with google, I cant sync them with outlook and I cant download them to my PC.or copy to the sim.

(I've set the google account up as an alias and also linked them)

You mentioned that the phone was set up with a Google address. As I recall, WPs have to be set up with a Microsoft ID. Are you certain that is the same Outlook account you are checking?

These contacts that aren't anywhere except on phone... they were created on the phone?

I thought the same as you, but somehow she has done exactly that.

It's definitely the correct email addresses as she only has one of each. In fact I have only just created the outlook address with the intention of using it for her phone, only to discover that you can't actually change it.

Just going to have to type them in on her PC in windows mail then reset the phone I think.

So these aren't really Google contacts, they're WP contacts that haven't synced with Outlook.

Before you blow up the phone...

1. Go to settings > email + accounts on phone, tap/hold the Microsoft Account until sync option appears.

2. Go to Outlook account in browser on PC and check People.

Next, go to the MS ID account on the computer and in Related Accounts > Manage Other Accounts, choose to edit the Google connection, uncheck all options, then save. Now reconnect Google.

OK... think I've tried this, but keen to give it a go.

Luckily, she's away for a few days at a music festival, so I wont have to waste another weekend pulling my hair out.

I'll report back next week.... hopefully with good news.

Thanks for your efforts so far,
