Could the 8X be the WP8 "sleeper hit" in the US?

There is no way in heck a country with 1.3 billion people only had 70 million people with smartphones. According to wikipedia they have an estimated 1 billion mobile phones in use.

It's called poverty. Most of those 1.3 billion can't afford a smartphone.

I am also secretly working on something if I get 8X. I just made a thread about the same. I badly need to make a decision.

Lumia920 kinnda looks expense, especially after the cost of the accessories...

I gues 8X is what I can only afford.

Trust me, WP8 devices will be marketed hard. It's do or die time for Windows Phone.

Regarding the 900s marketing, well for starters, the whole "the beta test is over" was a shi*ty campaign. Also, Nokia must've been already working on the 920/820 series by the time the 900 was released, and *probably* felt the money was best saved for WP8 device marketing. I mean, the 900 came out in freakin' April.

I'll have to disagree slightly. The Beta campaign was brilliant, but used on the wrong phone. It should've been reserved for the 920.

Agree 100%. It looks like the "featurephone" is getting squeezed out of the market. For example, my wife has a Sony Ericsson flip-phone that's been eligible for an upgrade for over a year. She's interested in an upgrade, but not necessarily a smartphone. Well, there's not a lot of options in that area. The featurephones are real shi*ty. It would be nice if you could get a texting phone with great quality and maybe a camera but it doesn't force you on a data plan. Doesn't really exist, does it?

Looks like she'll be getting a smartphone even though she'll rarely be using the data service. The carriers knew this was coming and pushed all of us in this direction. Well played.

Buy the phone outright and use whichever plan you want. If you can't afford to, don't get a smartphone. If she doesn't need data she doesn't need a smartphone.

I don't have the experience of an HTC using WP, but in Android terms they're the last I'd buy a phone from.

My current Android phone from HTC has...issues...in a number of areas. I would normally blame this on user error but I also have an Android tablet from Asus that performs superbly and my friends with HTC phones have all had similar issues with them (even issues so bad as freezing, crashing, and randomly shutting themselves off).

I really hope that they can do well though, as I would really love to see WP8 take the fight back to Apple and their horribly evil ways. I'd love WP to rise to the top of the mobile market but i'd be willing to settle for Apple suffering a fall to 3rd and Android rising to their place as well.

The 8X sure has this Lumia 900 owners attention. I can't hide from the fact that it does have tons to offer I could seriously be satisfied with.

I really want the L920. But since I refuse to go with AT&T I'm stuck with either a 920 variant or going with HTC or Samsung. When I make my decision, if I can't go with the 920 (or decent variant), I will decide when I have both the 8X and Ativ in my hand. It will come down to memory size, screen size (and resolution), and wireless charging.

OMG....the random resets for no reason are my only gripe with my HTC g2. Plus the fact that I will never go beyond ice cream sandwich......

And this is my main fear with going with the 8x. That and crappy memory size and no wireless charging solution.
